‘PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN' TAG FUNDS FOR BATTLESHIP

The State of Alabama proudly invites all its citizens to buy a new ‘PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN' license tag. Governor Don Siegelman signed legislation creating the specialty tag, proceeds of which will support two veterans oriented organizations in Alabama.

USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park and the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs will split the net proceeds of the $50.00 tag cost, each agency receiving about $21.00 per tag sold. The $50.00 cost is tax-deductible and each tag may be personalized.

In order to begin manufacturing the tags, 1,000 requests for order must be received. To order your ‘PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN' tag, please request and, along with your $50.00 check, complete a "Commitment to Purchase' application at your local county License Office in Alabama.

Once available to the public, the License Office will notify the purchaser the tags are available. The specialized tags will also be offered over the counter at all Alabama license tag outlets once the minimum 1,000 orders are processed.

Battleship Memorial Park will use the proceeds toward the continued restoration of Battleship USS ALABAMA (BB-60) and the current ‘She Protected Our Freedom; Help Preserve Her Future' Capital Campaign. The Department of Veterans Affairs have committed their entire share of the proceeds to the ongoing operations of their three Veterans Hospitals in the State.
