Mobile, Alabama, July 13, 2016 – USS INDIANAPOLIS survivor and former U.S. Marine, Edgar Harrell, will speak on Saturday, July 30, marking the 71st anniversary of the sinking of the USS INDIANAPOLIS.  The event will begin at 1:00 p.m. and be held in the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion at Battleship Memorial Park.  

Harrell will be sharing his vivid first-hand account of the secret mission to deliver the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima and the horrific day that the USS INDIANAPOLIS was sunk.  Harrell is the author of “Out of the Depths,” a book recounting his personal experience of survival following the ship’s sinking.  There will be a book signing following his lecture. 

Last summer the new movie USS INDIANAPOLIS, staring Nichols Cage, was filmed aboard the USS ALABAMA and the USS DRUM.   The movie is set to be released this fall.

Battleship Memorial Park is located at 2703 Battleship Memorial Park.  The event is included with a regular admission ticket to the park.  Admission is free to children up to 5 years of age, $6 for children ages 6 to 11, and $15 for children 12 years of age through adults.  Active Duty Military personnel receive free admission.  The park is open 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., daily, with our last ticket sold at 5:00 p.m.   There is a $2 park entry fee.
