SUMMARY:June Living History Drill
DESCRIPTION:Come see history come to life with our WWII reenactors during their June drill. Interact with historical WWII reenactors aboard the USS ALABAMA and USS DRUM. These historical reenactors\, dressed in WWII period Navy uniforms\, demonstrate what life aboard ship was like during wartime. They share stories from our original crewmen\, conduct weapons briefings\, and demonstrate drills while aboard ship. \nBe sure to grab a spot on the main deck of the USS ALABAMA at 1:00 p.m. when “Call to Battle Stations” is sounded. Enemy aircraft will fly over attacking the ship\, and the crewmen will fire back defend her with their guns blazing! Spectators will be able to take in the whole experience while the crew fires the ship’s 20mm and 40mm guns. Planes fly based on mechanics and weather conditions that day. \nThe Deep South Amateur Radio Club will be broadcasting from Radio Central aboard the USS ALABAMA during the drill and welcome visitors to stop by to listen. For all ham radio operators\, the call letters are K4DSR and K5LDA broadcasting between 20 and 40. \nThe drill is open to the public and included with general admission tickets.

SUMMARY:Alabama Poppy Project
DESCRIPTION:The Alabama Poppy Project is a moving tribute honoring the memory of Captain Kyle Steven Hansen (USAF) and all those who have served our country. Created in 2020 by artist and potter Julianne Hansen as a creative and therapeutic response to grief\, the project features thousands of hand-crafted ceramic poppies displayed as a symbol of remembrance\, sacrifice\, and healing. Since its beginning\, the exhibit has grown from 1\,001 poppies to more than 2\,000 for this year’s display\, drawing visitors from across the region to reflect and pay tribute. Displayed annually around Memorial Day\, the Alabama Poppy Project serves as a powerful visual reminder of honor\, service\, and community remembrance. During evening hours\, a visual video display can also accompany the exhibit\, sharing the story of the memorial poppy\, its origins\, and photos of those being honored through sponsored poppies. SUMMARY:October Living History Drill
DESCRIPTION:Come see history come to life with our WWII reenactors during their October drill. Interact with historical WWII reenactors aboard the USS ALABAMA and USS DRUM. These historical reenactors\, dressed in WWII period Navy uniforms\, demonstrate what life aboard ship was like during wartime. They share stories from our original crewmen\, conduct weapons briefings\, and demonstrate drills while aboard ship. \nBe sure to grab a spot on the main deck of the USS ALABAMA at 1:00 p.m. when “Call to Battle Stations” is sounded. Enemy aircraft will fly over attacking the ship\, and the crewmen will fire back defend her with their guns blazing! Spectators will be able to take in the whole experience while the crew fires the ship’s 20mm and 40mm guns. Planes fly based on mechanics and weather conditions that day. \nThe Deep South Amateur Radio Club will be broadcasting from Radio Central aboard the USS ALABAMA during the drill and welcome visitors to stop by to listen. For all ham radio operators\, the call letters are K4DSR and K5LDA broadcasting between 20 and 40. \nThe drill is open to the public and included with general admission tickets.
