SUMMARY:June Living History Drill
DESCRIPTION:Come see history come to life with our WWII reenactors during their June drill. Interact with historical WWII reenactors aboard the USS ALABAMA and USS DRUM. These historical reenactors\, dressed in WWII period Navy uniforms\, demonstrate what life aboard ship was like during wartime. Spectators will be able to take in the whole experience while the crew fires the ship’s 20mm and 40mm guns. Planes fly based on mechanics and weather conditions that day. \nThe Deep South Amateur Radio Club will be broadcasting from Radio Central aboard the USS ALABAMA during the drill and welcome visitors to stop by to listen. For all ham radio operators\, the call letters are NE4MW and K5LDA broadcasting between 20 and 40. \nThe drill is open to the public and included with general admission tickets.

SUMMARY:Teak Deck Replacement Project Completion Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park is proud to formally announce the completion of the Teak Deck Replacement Project. A ceremony will be held on Thursday\, June 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion to celebrate this significant milestone. Following the brief ceremony will be a ribbon cutting at the bottom of the battleship’s gangway. All visitors will receive 50% off their admission ticket in celebration of the day. \nAfter over 80 years of wear\, the battleship’s main deck required replacement. Beginning in 2021\, the three-year teak deck replacement project was underway. With over 20\,500 square feet of decking\, the project was expected to be completed in October 2024. Broken into five phases\, each area would include erecting a containment system\, dry blasting\, priming\, and the installation of the new teak panels. Contracting crews have completed all five phases\, finishing the job seven months ahead of schedule. \nFor those interested in purchasing pieces made from the original teak deck of the USS ALABAMA\, please click here. \n \n
