Alabama Poppy Project
May 22 @ 8:00 am - May 26 @ 5:00 pm
The Alabama Poppy Project is a moving tribute honoring the memory of Captain Kyle Steven Hansen (USAF) and all those who have served our country. Created in 2020 by artist and potter Julianne Hansen as a creative and therapeutic response to grief, the project features thousands of hand-crafted ceramic poppies displayed as a symbol of remembrance, sacrifice, and healing. Since its beginning, the exhibit has grown from 1,001 poppies to more than 2,000 for this year’s display, drawing visitors from across the region to reflect and pay tribute. Displayed annually around Memorial Day, the Alabama Poppy Project serves as a powerful visual reminder of honor, service, and community remembrance. During evening hours, a visual video display can also accompany the exhibit, sharing the story of the memorial poppy, its origins, and photos of those being honored through sponsored poppies. Those wishing to honor a loved one with a Memorial Poppy, please visit Welcome to the Alabama Poppy Project | AlabamaPoppyProject.com.
